James S. Delhunty

July 18, 1938 — June 29, 2024

Ridgway

James Samuel Delhunty, 85, of Ridgway, passed away on June 29, 2024. He was lovingly known as “Sam” by his family and friends.

Sam was born on July 18, 1938 to Jack and Verda Lyle Delhunty, who preceded him in death. He spent his early years in Portland Mills where he grew up in a large family.

Sam was a graduate of the Ridgway Area School District. Upon graduation, he was employed by IPM of Ridgway where he worked his way up to co-owner of the plant that later became Clarion Sintered Metals. He retired in 1996.

On April 23, 1960, Sam married his beloved wife Rosarina “Rose” Mannella. Together they celebrated 64 years of marriage and raised their children to be a loving and close-knit family. He loved his family unconditionally more than anything in the world. Sam was a devoted and caring husband, father, and grandfather who, along with his wife, hosted Sunday spaghetti dinners that were legendary. Throughout the years, hundreds of people enjoyed meals, parties, and hospitality at the Delhunty house. All were welcome and greeted with his wonderful sense of humor, sharp wit, kindness, and smile.

During his younger years, Sam was an avid baseball and softball player. Later in life, he cherished days by the pool surrounded by his children and grandchildren, a good round of golf, and an evening of poker at the Moose with his late brother, Dick, who he missed greatly. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan and enjoyed watching and talking about sports with his family and friends.

In addition to his loving wife of 64 years, he is survived by five children; Terri (Al) Stewart of Mechanicsville, MD, Jim (Tina) Delhunty of Ridgway, Mona Delhunty of Ridgway, Lisa (John) Aiello of Ridgway, Evelyn (Joe) Kemick of Ridgway, and his bonus daughter, Diane Ferrari of Ridgway. Sam is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grand children who were the light of his life; Jessica (Jason) Marche, David (John) Klein, Joseph (Carissa) Delhunty, Samantha (Chris) Carson, Emily (Austin) Delhunty, Dominic (Katelyn) Aiello, Matthew (Kiara) Aiello, Maria (Brandon) Aiello, Elizabeth Kemick, Claire Kemick, Hannah Park, Daniel Park, Emma Cussins, Ricky (Mackenzie) Delhunty, Rocco Delhunty, Derek Marche, Brooklyn Marche, JJ Marche, Gracie Marche, Kaiya Carson, Dominic Carson, Quinn Carson, and Ryder Delhunty, and a sister; Mona (Lynn) Scott of OH.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his beloved grandson and namesake, Samuel James Delhunty, on February 29, 2024. He was also preceded in death by a son in law; Perry Klein, three sisters; Mary Brattis, Kathryn Capuano, and Doris Kelly, and four brothers; Frank Lyle, Jack, Wayne, and Dick Delhunty.

His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and neighbors, and his legacy will be kept alive through his children and grandchildren who will miss him deeply.
