Jean H. Gier

Jean H. Gier, 86, of Ridgway, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness. 

She was born on November 13, 1936 in Ridgway, a daughter of the late Sherman and Rose George Durnell.

On August 4, 1963, she married Amos Gier, who preceded her in death on February 23, 1980.

Jean was a lifelong resident of Ridgway and was a graduate of Ridgway High School. She worked for many years at Alltel and then also worked for a number of years at Walmart, enjoying the friends she met along the way. She also volunteered at the Ridgway Historical Society and the Good Samaritan Food Bank over the years. A faithful and devoted friend of the Ridgway Fire Department, she often shared her cooking and baked goods with the firemen. She loved cooking, baking, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by by one son; Joseph Gier and his wife Dawn and by one daughter; Susan Klase and her husband Chris, both of Ridgway, and by her 3 beloved grandchildren; Allison Gier, Jonathan "JJ" Klase, and Nathan Klase. She is also survived by two sisters; Ena Westgren of MO and Eileen Wolfe of NY, as well by several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter; Linda Gier. a brother; Blair Kitchen, and by two sisters; Dorothea Durnell and Peggy Baird.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Jean H. Gier will be celebrated on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 1:00 PM at St. Leo Magnus Catholic Church, 111 Depot Street, Ridgway, PA 15853 with Fr. Justin Pino, Pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Leo's Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held at the Krise Funeral Home on Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Ridgway Fire Department or the Elk County Historical Society.
